Structural Steel Fabrication and Installation

Iron Mann Industries fabricates and installs structural steel for industrial, commercial, and residential projects throughout Genesee County and Mid-Michigan. From load-bearing beams in a factory expansion to a custom steel deck on a high-end home, we handle the full scope: fabrication in our shop, delivery, and on-site installation with our mobile welding unit.

Dennis Mann holds AWS Level I structural welding certification, which means every structural weld we put down is backed by tested, verified qualification. When your project involves steel that people stand on, work under, or depend on for safety, certification is not optional. It’s the baseline.

What We Build

Industrial and Commercial

We work with plant managers, facility operators, and general contractors on steel construction projects that require structural integrity and code compliance.

  • Mezzanines and elevated work platforms
  • Industrial catwalks and walkways
  • Equipment skids and machine bases
  • Structural beam installation and modification
  • Column and support post fabrication
  • Loading dock structures and reinforcements
  • Safety railings and guardrail systems
  • Steel framing for building expansions and modifications

Residential

Steel isn’t just for factories. We build structural steel components for residential projects where wood framing won’t cut it. If your architect or contractor spec’d steel for load-bearing support, open floor plans, or an elevated deck, we fabricate and install it.

  • Steel deck framing and support structures
  • Load-bearing beams for open floor plan renovations
  • Loft and second-story structural supports
  • Elevated platform and balcony frameworks
  • Steel staircase stringers and structural components
  • Retaining wall reinforcement and anchoring

Our Process

1. Site Assessment or Print Review

For new construction, we work from your architect or engineer’s drawings. For modifications to existing structures, we can visit the site to assess the conditions, take measurements, and determine the best approach. If you need engineering stamps, we can coordinate with a structural engineer.

2. Shop Fabrication

All structural components are fabricated in our 4,000 sq. ft. shop in Flint. We cut, weld, drill, and assemble steel members to spec before anything goes to the job site. Where precision matters, we use our CNC equipment for bolt hole patterns, mounting plates, and custom connections. This means less time on-site, fewer disruptions to your facility or home, and better quality control on every weld and connection.

3. Delivery and Installation

We deliver fabricated steel to your site and install it with our mobile welding unit. On-site work includes final welding, bolting, alignment, and verification. For industrial projects, we can schedule installation around your production hours to minimize downtime.

4. Finishing

Depending on the application, structural steel may need primer, paint, powder coating, or galvanizing for corrosion protection. We coordinate finishing as needed and can deliver components ready for installation or arrange on-site touch-up after welding.

Materials and Capabilities

We work with standard structural steel shapes: wide flange beams (I-beams), channels, angles, hollow structural sections (HSS/tube steel), and plate. We cut, drill, weld, and assemble per your specifications using certified welding processes.

Because structural steel work often requires machining (bolt hole patterns, precision mounts) and fabrication (brackets, gussets, custom connections) alongside welding, having all three capabilities in one shop eliminates the coordination headaches and delays of splitting work across multiple vendors.

Working with Contractors and Architects

We work directly with general contractors, architects, and builders on both new construction and renovation projects. If you’re a GC who needs a reliable steel subcontractor for a commercial build-out or a residential renovation that requires structural steel, we can work from your drawings, coordinate with your schedule, and communicate directly with your project manager.

For residential projects, we also work directly with homeowners. If you’re planning a steel deck, opening up a load-bearing wall, or adding a loft and your contractor needs a steel fabricator, we handle the steel scope from quote through installation.

Why Structural Steel

Steel lasts. It doesn’t rot, warp, or get eaten by termites. For load-bearing applications, elevated structures, and long spans, steel provides strength and durability that wood and aluminum can’t match. It’s the standard for industrial construction and increasingly common in residential projects where homeowners want open floor plans, large decks, or structures that will stand for decades without maintenance.

The upfront cost is higher than wood framing, but the lifespan and structural capacity more than justify it for the right applications. If you’re not sure whether your project needs steel, we can help you evaluate that before you commit.

Structural steel, certified welds, installed right. That’s the Iron Mann way.
